Google Blocks Competitor From Search Results

The popular encrypted mail tool ProtonMail had its name “magically” disappear from Google search results for almost nine months, only reappearing after the company complained publically to Google. During that time, they were among the top results for encrypted email and secure email on every other search engine. Although no one quite knows why Google would have taken action against ProtonMail (they don’t offer encrypted email of the same type), the specificity of the “bug” is rather extreme, targeting only one company and one who competes, at least tangentially, with Google.

As a result, ProtonMail has been invited to join the complainants against Google as part of the EU’s anti-trust action.
